I Like Your Work: Conversations with Artists, Curators & Collectors

Jan 17, 2020

I am thrilled to share the work of Mark Milroy! I've followed Mark's work for a few years which is why I am so excited to have him on the show! It was so much fun to record this interview in his Brooklyn studio where Mark share's hilarious stories of his background growing up in Canada, how he came to art, painting adults with mental illness and developmental disabilities, and how this lead to his interest in portrait painting and pursuing art as his career. We also discuss health setbacks and dealing with that as a human being and artist.

Mark is hilarious and I loved his stories and passion for painting. If you guys get a chance to do a studio visit to hang out and talk about art with Mark, I would highly suggest it! If you can’t make it to Brooklyn, follow him on Instagram @mark_milroy where he shares work and behind the scenes of people sitting for him which I love seeing.

Mark received a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has exhibited in galleries in New York City, Brooklyn, Chicago, LA, Sag Harbor, and Canada. His work has been featured in Columbia: A Journal of Art & Literature and New York Metropolis, and in the Absolut Vodka advertising campaign. Milroy’s work has been written about in CityArts Magazine, Domino Magazine, The East Hampton Star, New York Arts Magazine, The New York Sun, The New York Times, Tokion Magazine, The Washington Post, and Dan’s Papers, among others.
