I Like Your Work: Conversations with Artists, Curators & Collectors

Sep 27, 2019

I am excited to share this week's interview with the incredibly successful and talented painter, Kim Dorland! I have been a fan of Kim for a long time. His thick oil paintings depict the landscape and the psyche of the individuals in them. In this episode, we talk about Kim's background and overcoming hardships in Wainwright, Alberta Canada, meeting the person that is now his wife, how he started studying art, his studio practice, how his work has shifted, and the importance of his family life. Kim is funny, sharp and insightful.

Kim has shown extensively nationally and internationally. He was born in Wainwright, Alberta, Canada and received his BFA from Emily Carr University of Art + Design and his MFA from York University. His work is featured in The Sander Collection (Berlin); Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art (KS); Montreal Museum of Fine Arts; Montreal Museum of Contemporary Art, Blanton Museum of Art (TX); Glenbow Museum (Calgary); Art Gallery of Alberta; Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, and numerous private collections. Dorland was recently the focus of a solo exhibition at the MCA Denver. Kim lives and works in Vancouver.
